"He Stopped Snoring!"

One woman wrote in to say the following:
I just wanted to let you know your products helped me and I didn't even buy them! My daughter is into aromatherapy. She uses all sorts of oils, lotions and potions and she is convinced they help her stay healthier and recover faster when she does get ill.... and she is always telling me about the ways aromatherapy has helped her. So one day she gives me this inhaler for my husband when he was feeling ill. She said she put a few drops of cedarwood, eucalyptus, and sandalwood in it and that it should help my husband to breath better and would reduce his congestion. He is always congested and stuff from allergies and whatnot so she thought it would help. Well, he walked around with that thing in his pocket and he sniffs it all the time! he says it is helping him to breath but the biggest thing I have noticed is - HE STOPPED SNORING!.

For the last 40 years he has been a really loud snorer. You can hear him on the other end of the house and my kid both joke about it. But for the first time in 40 years he actually has stopped snoring and sleeps quieter than ever before. I am now convinced that this stuff works. I have been reading and reviewing information on your website and I am planning to try your oils as well. I am so glad my daughter found your products!!!
    Thanks a Million.

"A Good Night's Rest"

One of our own employees recounts an experience she had using a blend for sleeplessness...
Recently, I have been having a hard time falling asleep at night. My brain just doesn't want to turn off, and when I lay down to sleep I remember all of the things i forgot to take care of that day, and all of the things i need to do tomorrow. It is really aggravating to be physically tired but mentally wound up. So I decided I wanted to try our Restful Sleep aromatherapy blend. It has chamomile, neroli and lavender essential oils in it along with a carrier oil. It is strong enough for inhalation without being overpowering so i decided I would try it that way. I didn't want it in the room in a diffuser because my husband has no trouble falling asleep - his head hits the pillow and he is out like a light... So I decided to put a drop on my fingertips and dab the oil right under my nose. I also put a few drops on the bottoms of my feet. The first night I tried this and I fell alseep in about 20 minutes. I used it this way for about a week and I noticed the amount of time decreasing a little bit each night. Now, I use it and I am asleep within 5 minutes - and I stay asleep all night. No more waking up at 3 AM. I am very happy and well rested when I wake up!

Essential oils and Epilepsy

We recently received a question regarding use of essential oils when you have epilepsy. This is a serious medical condition affecting the neurological center of the brain and should be diagnosed and treated by a medical practitioner. Until more medical research is done to discover exactly how certain essential oils react in the brain of an epileptic patient, it is wise to avoid their use.

If you have ever browsed for essential oils or purchased them online from a reputable dealer, you would have read a warning not to use certain oils if you are epileptic or suffer from seizures. Essential oils that have been widely reported to cause or trigger convulsions and seizures include:
    Aniseed
    Rosemary
    Fennel
    Hyssop
    Sage

Researchers are continuing to perform studies on these oils and until there is conclusive evidence to the contrary, those whom suffer from this condition would do well to avoid using these oils.

Even given this information, some epileptics still use essential oils in very diluted concentrations for massage.

If you have epilepsy and use, or have used essential oils we'd love to hear your comments.

Can essential oils expire?

Recently, a customer wrote in with the following question:
Good day,
Purchased a couple bottles of oil from you.
Just heard oils expire. Can you tell me how long is the shelf life, as well as what happens if you use the oil after expiration date.
Also how can the life of the oil be extended.

Regards
S. M.

p.s. If one generally opens and closes a bottle of oil daily to inhale the scent, does this diminish the life of the oil and what could be done to preserve it.

============================================================>
OUR RESPONSE:

Hello Mr. M.,

Yes, undiluted essential oils do have a shelf life, generally 1 year after the retail container is first opened. Some oils last 2 years or more, and others get better with age, such as patchouli oil and tea tree oil. The oils that expire the quickest are citrus oils and can be extended if kept in the refrigerator or other cool conditions.

In most cases, the best way to preserve the oils is to keep them in dark, cool locations away from light and heat. If you open the bottle daily, you might want to consider an aromatherapy inhaler. All you need to do is put a few drops of your oil in the inhaler and sniff when you desire. The inhaler scent can last several weeks depending on how much you add. This way, the oil stays in the bottle without being opened everyday, and you still can smell it anytime you want with the inhaler.

Generally, over time and oxidation, the oils become less effective. Unless the oil is contaminated in some way, there should be little harm in using them a short time after the expiration date. You may notice the aroma changes over time as well.

We have used it here and love it. The blend is very effective and has a very pleasant lemony aroma. One of us actually added a few drops to our store bought torch lamp oil and used it in a tiki torch lamp with positive results. A customer actually suggested using it in a fan diffuser as well, to help keeps insects away without the use of flames.

What do you think? The spray is meant for the skin. Has anyone used it in any other manner??? If so what where your results?

Ultrasonic Aromatherapy Difffusers - perfect for essential oils

We have recently introduced our new line of ultrasonic aromatherapy diffusers and have experienced rave reviews! Our customers love our line of ultrasonic diffusers because they work with water and air - not heat, so the essential oils stay in tact and are not altered during the diffusion process. There is also a fantastic side effect - the oils smell even better using this method of diffusion and a little bit goes a long, long way.

Using the new ultrasonic diffusers is very easy - simply add some tap water and a few drops of essential oil. Turn the unit on and set the timer according to your preference. That's it. 5 drops of essential oil will scent the entire room in under 3 minutes. Now that is a huge cost savings over tea lite burners!

We love these ultrasonic diffusers for so many reasons. here are just a few benefits of using them with essential oils:

Safe Operation - No heat or Flame
Quiet - Nearly silent
Gentle Cooling Mist - can be used without oils
No Replacement Pads are needed - saving you money!
Only water is required. Add hot water and create a warming facial mist!
